Invergordon Aluminium Smelter

The newly completed freight sidings and British Aluminium smelter at Invergordon in 1971. At its peak the smelter generated traffic for three trains daily, bringing in butane and taking out aluminium blocks, plus alumina for the Fort William smelter - won by rail despite requiring a 330-mile haul compared to the direct road distance of less than 100 miles!
