Perth New Yard

Part of a pristine Perth New Yard glimpsed from a passing train in the autumn of 1962, shortly after the opening of this major new marshalling complex. One of the many blunders of the BR 1955 Modernisation Plan, this facility lost its raison d'etre with the 1967 closure of the Strathmore Route and the general decline of wagonload traffic. Following its use as engineers' and stabling sidings, the yard was closed completely and is likely to be redeveloped for housing. See image 21446
