Woodhall Junction

The substantial station at Woodhall Junction (named Kirkstead from opening until 1922) was on the direct line from Lincoln to Firsby and only closed in 1970. It was also the junction for lines to Boston (closed 1963) and the Horncastle branch which closed to passengers in 1954 but still saw occasional freight trains as late as 1971. View towards Boston from the site of the old level crossing, now replaced by a new road that crosses the adjacent river at a much higher level behind the camera.
