Kyle of Lochalsh

Your eyes do not deceive you. That is freight at Kyle of Lochalsh. Back in January of 1997 an experimental timber train was loaded at Kyle for Workington, the first freight in 15 years. That was followed in March by this train, carrying 250 tonnes of Caithness flagstone for the 'Kyle Prospect' development. The train had been loaded at Georgmas Junction, with feed destined for fish farms added at Inverness. The unloaded flagstones can be seen piled in the background. The same train was then loaded with further timber destined for Workington. See image 36320
