Fairlie Pier

A train for Glasgow stands at Farlie Pier station on a dismal looking Monday 25 February 1963. On the right is the former 2-road locomotive shed - built in 1918 to replace a burned-down 1882 timber original. The shed had closed in 1930 but was later acquired for boat storage and repair by a local boatbuilder. (The original roof featured a long smoke vent which had been removed in a subsequent re-roofing.) The building was finally demolished in 1987. Fairlie Pier station itself was officially closed in October 1971, although the last train visited the station in July 1972.
