Attleborough

This Memorial Plaque sited on the Platform side of the station building at Attleborough see image 36465. The plaque commemorates those men of the USAAF who flew missions from the nearby wartime bomber bases in this part of Norfolk during WWII. Losses were appallingly high and for many of the young airmen their last train journey would have ended here. (Group Operations Officer at nearby Old Buckenham in the spring of 1944 was one Colonel James Stewart, who also achieved some success in Hollywood.)
