Reedsmouth

View north from the tall signal box at the south end of Reedsmouth station on 9 November 1963. The photograph was taken during a photostop on the RCTS/SLS 'Wansbeck Wanderer' railtour. The Border Counties line to Riccarton Junction runs off to the left through rural Northumberland towards Bellingham. The line is seen passing the former locomotive shed, officially closed in 1952 when a sub to 52C Blaydon. On the right is the station approach road from the hamlet of Redesmouth on the River Rede (note the spelling). Off picture to the right is the Wansbeck Valley platform, at which Ivatt 2-6-0 no 43129 is standing with the special. For the view south from the signal box at this time see image 23266
