Runcorn Viaduct

The northern approach arches of the 1868 Runcorn Viaduct carrying the railway across the Mersey between Runcorn and Widnes. Photographed from the LCGB (North West Branch) Two Cities Limited Rail Tour on 23 June 1968. The special, hauled by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 no 48033, has just crossed the river and is starting to turn west towards Liverpool Lime Street with the last leg of the tour from Manchester Victoria.
