Thornaby Shed

J27 0-6-0 no 65853 et al lined up at 51L Thornaby on 26 March 1961. Britain's last purpose-built steam shed had opened on a 70 acre site here some 3 years earlier as a replacement for the old sheds at Stockton, Haverton Hill, Newport and Middlesbrough. The shed closed to steam in December 1964, some six and a half years after opening. Thornaby closed completely during 2009.
