Yates and Duxbury Paper Mills

Peckett 1370/1915 0-4-0ST May stands on the loco siding at Yates and Duxbury's Paper Mill at Heap Bridge near Bury in 1970. Steam was still in use here at this time shunting coal wagons between various buildings but May was the spare engine as her steam brakes no longer worked and a Barclay saddle tank was the preferred motive power. A third engine, another Peckett Annie, was out of use by this time. The three locos were in a worn out and run down condition so it is remarkable that all have survived into preservation. See image 33098 for a comparison with May as she is today.
