Broughty Ferry

Part of the One Inch OS map of 1945 showing the D&A Joint line east of Dundee, and the start of the Forfar direct line.  Elsewhere some efforts were taken to avoid having two stations with the same name, but Scotland seemed to manage with two Barnhills, here and in Glasgow, as well as the signal box near Perth.  Note the closed Buddon Siding station.  The camp and firing ranges are still there, and disconcerting sounds of gunfire (which famously doesn't sound like gunfire) can be heard in the Barry area. Also worthy of note is the ferry route between Tayport and Broughty Ferry, once an important link (along with the Granton - Burntisland ferry) in the Edinburgh and Northern Railway's route north from the capital.
