Portsmouth (Lancashire)

158842 climbs through the steeply sided valley leading to Copy Pit summit with a York to Blackpool service. The train is just passing through the site of Portsmouth station (closed 1958), of which no trace remains. The 158 units make light work of the steep gradients encountered on this route but the GWR Castle hauled 9 coach steam special that followed this service seemed to be travelling just as quickly.
