Glasgow Central

46239 City of Chester storms out of Glasgow Central with the up 'Mid-day Scot' during the school Easter holidays in 1960. The loco is flanked on the left by an unidentified  Fairburn Class 4 2-6-4T while the few enthusiasts on the right are enjoying a spectacle which demonstrates why the steam railway was surely 'the greatest free show on earth' (discounting the cost of a platform ticket that is!). A historic shot this - my very first  attempt at action photography (and probably amongst my first half dozen railway photographs).
