Hythe

Time for a rest and a cigarette at Hythe station, Colchester, on the morning of June 19th 1980. The gang had just finished re-railing this brake van at the end of a permanent way train. Earlier, after a run around from the locomotive via the points visible, the train was required to set back, and the brake van had split the points. The incident had occurred at just at the right time to ensure rush hour chaos on the Clacton/Walton to Colchester line.
