New Galloway

Richard Hannay country. Gatehouse of Fleet station holds the record
for the station furthest from the place it claimed to serve, but New
Galloway station, also on the Port Road, was not very convenient
either. Five full miles separate it from the village, though much of it was along the shore of Loch Ken and you could at least admire the
scenery. Loch Skerrow Halt (bottom left) seemed to serve nothing that couldn't be more easily reached from New Galloway station and I can only assume its custom (if any) came from anglers on the loch. This is an extract from a 1925 OS One Inch Scottish Popular Edition map. Crown Copyright 1925.
