Carnforth

With its connecting rods removed, withdrawn BR Standard class 9F 2-10-0 no 92091 stands outside Carnforth shed in the summer of 1968 awaiting the final trip to the breaker's yard. The 9Fs seemed to epitomise the rush to get rid of steam, being highly regarded locomotives, but withdrawn after very short lives. The lines on which 92091 and the other locos are standing now form part of the West Coast diesel depot and have been partly covered. From the elevated footpath that runs behind the trees, examples of classes 03, 08, 33, 37 and 47 can still usually be glimpsed.
