Staward

Looking across fields in rural Northumberland to the former station at Staward on the Allendale branch. The station, which had no associated village or hamlet, was once a busy railhead for livestock traffic, being located at the junction of the West and East Allen Valleys. The station lost its passenger service in 1930. The old waiting room has since been modified and refitted and let out as a holiday cottage - advertised as 'The only 160 year old wooden hut in Northumberland awarded 4 gold stars by Visit Britain'.
