Bridge Street

I'm standing south of the Clyde, a few hundred yards short of Glasgow Central; the running lines are behind that wall. The original Bridge Street terminus was to the right of all the building on the opposite side of the street. This station which predated Glasgow Central and the bridging of the Clyde. The original building's much larger extension has survived and dominates the picture. It had quite a short working life, closing in 1905 after Glasgow Central and its approaches were enlarged to accommodate all services. The upper storeys are occupied by flats, and windows at the back offer in-your-face rail comings and goings. The accompanying sounds must be a mixed blessing (or perhaps an unmixed curse) to residents for whom a train is a train.
