Manchester Mayfield

The derelict but substantially intact Manchester Mayfield station, as seen from the Deansgate line island platform at Piccadilly. This picture shows the main station building, the approach ramp and the trainshed behind. Mayfield was seen as an extension of the then London Road (later Piccadilly) station but closed to passengers in 1960, following which it was for a long time used for parcels trains. Over the years there have been numerous proposals for this prime city centre site, including reopening to rail traffic, but nothing has yet transpired. See image 30526
