Annesley Shed

Shed scene at 16D Annesley, Nottinghamshire, in August 1960 with a number of BR class 9Fs on display. The shed and its associated yard stood at the northern end of the former Great Central 'coal corridor' linking with the yard at Woodford Halse in Northamptonshire. In later years it became well known for the performances of the 9Fs that dominated the route, hauling the rapid-turnaround unfitted freights known as 'runners' between the two locations. During the 1959/60 period Annesley's allocation of 76 locomotives included no less than 31 of the big 2-10-0s. Annesley shed was officially closed on 3 January 1966, with Woodford Halse having shut down 6 months earlier.
