Lancaster

The 6K27 Carlisle Yard to Crewe infrastructure train climbs the 1:92 bank south of Lancaster behind 66508. The train is just approaching the site of Lancaster Old Junction where the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway joined the original Lancaster and Preston Junction Railway. The branch to the original Lancaster Greaves terminus See image 18309 closed to passengers in 1849 but survived for goods traffic until 1967 although housing has now been built on the old formation, as seen to the left of the locomotive.
