Wakefield Westgate

7029 Clun Castle heads north through Wakefield Westgate on an Ian Allan special from Kings Cross to Leeds (and the Middleton Railway) on 17 September 1967. Visible to the right of shot are the former bay platforms used for the local Wakefield to Bradford Exchange services, via Ossett, Dewsbury Central, Batley and Drighlington, and those to Castleford via Stanley & Methley. These were later infilled grassed over, and a light display created along the wall seen to the right, but this is now just an empty enclosed space. See image 48886. The up through road was removed on electrification to give room for overhead wiring support masts to be erected through the station area see image 36967
