Haymarket

It's 17.07 on 4 June and the daily Carnoustie service pulls out in the care of a Class 158 (leading) and a 170.  These mixed formations are not uncommon on east coast services.  The train will split at Dundee and only the 158 will go forward to Carnoustie.  This is not necessarily because the 170 is urgently needed in Dundee, but simply because 5 coaches is way too long for the platforms at Balmossie and Golf Street which can just squeeze in three.
