Edinburgh Waverley

There aren't many bays with a platform at both sides, but Platform 18 at Waverley is one such. It is largely academic now as the doors are activated on only one side (the right, as seen here) in order to ensure customers are channelled through the ticket barriers. However with old DMUs there was of course no 'centralised locking' and you had the small privilege of getting out either side. Photographed on 20 May 1995 when I perceived these 117s to be a doomed hangover, though in fact they lasted for another 5 years.
