Wakefield Kirkgate

45006 <I>Honourable Artillery Company</I> at Wakefield Kirkgate on a snowy 30 December 1981 with the Heaton - Manchester Red Bank empty newspaper vans, whilst the first loco of the UK class 56 build, 56031, passes with eastbound MGR wagons. Track rationalising has since taken place with the westbound through road between the locos removed, and the former eastbound through road made bi-directional Some 40 years later 56031 was one of the class 56 loco's chosen to be rebuilt into a Class 69, with General Motors engines fitted, and was the first loco of the new class to enter service, as 69001 Mayflower.
