York Layerthorpe

Excuse me, but isn't this a record... Layerthorpe station, York, on the Derwent Valley Light Railway, in 1979. Worsdell ex-NER Clas E1 (LNER Class J72) no 69093 Joem takes on water via the platform hosepipe. Some 113 examples of this sturdy and reliable class were built in 9 batches over an elapsed period of 53 years between 1898 and 1951, a record production span for a British steam locomotive.
