Glenrothes with Thornton

For some years slam-door DMUs in the Edinburgh area were confined to
peak hour workings on the Fife and Bathgate lines.  It is now September 1999 and their demise is only a couple of months away in the cascade caused by the introduction of Class 170s.  The 117s' poor reliability towards the end was meat for the press: a fitter riding on every train, we were told.  117 313 is seen at Glenrothes with Thornton in the evening forming the 1638 from Waverely which was a regular 117 working.
