Charlestown

Looking westwards up the incline back towards the viaduct see image 17374.  The line curves sharply to the right when it reaches the trees in the middle distance.  The 1894 NBR alignment is off to the left beyond the houses at a slightly lower level.  The 1834 alignment to Charlestown Harbour, which involved an incline with a stationery engine, is about 50 yards behind the photographer.
