Lauder Food Depot

View along the minor road running north west off the A68 to the north of Lauder on Boxing Day 2009. The station and goods yard stood off to the right. Lauder lost its passenger service in 1932 but the branch survived for another 26 years, closing in 1958. The station and goods yard are gone and the area is now an industrial estate. One remaining link to the railway however is this large former government wartime food storage depot which was served by a private siding running back from the platform line. This continued over a level crossing on the right to reach transhipment facilities along the side of the building nearest the road. The complex, consisting of 6 large interconnected storage sheds (another 3 stand at the rear), closed in the 1950s although the buildings survive in commercial use.
