Toton Marshalling Yard

Possibly the oldest operational locomotive on BR at the time, Johnson ex-Midland Railway 2F no 58128 off Bescot shed (3A) stands in the yard at Toton in October 1962. The 0-6-0 appears to have an empty tender, and is most likely en route from Bescot Shed for scrapping following recent withdrawal from service. No less than 935 of these locomotives were produced, with this being one of the earliest examples, built by Kitson in 1875. After an operational life of 87 years, 58128 was cut up at Derby Works a few months after this photograph was taken.
