Plashetts

Scene on the Border Counties line following closure between Riccarton Junction and Bellingham. View towards the closed Plashetts station with the link from Slater's Incline coming in from the right. The incline was used to bring coal from the workings in the hills above Plashetts to sidings alongside the station. Beyond the trees to the right were coal screens and a brickworks, with much of the output from both being supplied to customers in Carlisle and Hawick. The landscape has changed completely since the photograph was taken, with much of the area now submerged beneath Kielder reservoir.
