Haymarket

Platform scene at Haymarket station in October 1982 with 37190 on a westbound train at platform 2. Work is underway in the background in connection with the removal of some of the original Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway structures in order to make way for additional car parking facilities. (The old E&G train shed can now be seen at the SRPS station at Boness.) The area has witnessed many further changes since the photograph was taken, with part of the extended car park that was eventually built subsequently reclaimed to accommodate the additional platform 0 (opened in January 2007) and the Caledonian Ale House in the background (to the left of the station building) demolished in 2008 to make way for the new tram / train / bus interchange.
