Dalmeny

During weekend diversion of Edinburgh - Glasgow services on 17 October a 6-car Class 170 accelerates towards Edinburgh following a lengthy wait in the Up Loop at Dalmeny where it reversed. To the right is the trackbed of the Ratho to South Queensferry branch, rather overshadowed (in both senses) by the Forth Bridge when it opened in 1890. Though 'goods only' for decades it survived long enough to need to be crossed by this bridge carrying the A90 Forth Road Bridge approach which opened in 1964. In fact I believe the branch was used to transport materials for the bridge construction.
