Tarras Viaduct

An Ivatt class 2MT propels the local pickup freight from Langholm back over Tarras Viaduct towards Riddings Junction c 1962. Having run direct to Langholm from Carlisle, this propelling manoeuvre avoided the need to run round at both Langholm and Riddings Junction prior to heading north to Newcastleton. After returning from Newcastleton to Carlisle the train will have crossed the border no less than 8 times. see image 23012
