Bugsworth Basin

Bugsworth Basin in the village of Buxworth, north west Derbyshire, was the western end of the Peak Forest Tramway. Here it met the Peak Forest Canal (right) and limestone from quarries at Dove Holes was transferred from tramway to canal for onward delivery to Cheshire and Lancashire. The tramway was constructed with rails attached to stone sleepers that can be seen in the photograph. The tramway was always worked by teams of horses.
