Edinburgh Waverley

J36 0-6-0 no 65234 stands in a bay platform at the east end of Waverley with a railtour on 29 August 1964. The train, made up of ex-Talisman coaching stock and carrying reporting code 100, visited various branch lines in and around Edinburgh and the Lothians including North Leith, Haddington and Penicuik. The tour had been jointly organised by the SLS/BLS with the objective of raising funds towards securing and preserving an example of the J36 class. The figure standing to the right of the locomotive is the late Bob Mitchell, Traction Inspector. [This image has been rerun with additional information kindly provided by David Kerr, whose late father David G Kerr accompanied this and many other railtours in the 1960s in his role as District Operating Inspector.
