Perth South Shed

One of Perth's Top Link Black 5s no 44704 stands alongside the shed's ash disposal plant with the coaling tower in the background. The photograph is thought to have been taken in 1963. [Editor's note: GS tells me that Perth locomen referred to these locomotives as Hikers. He also recalls working with Jimmy Edwards, regular fireman of featured locomotive 44704, who, following its withdrawal in September 1966, purchased 704's smokebox number plate. The plate currently resides with his grandson in Switzerland.]
