Newline Tunnel

This is Newline tunnel, just south of Bacup, on the steeply graded line to Rochdale. Closed in 1947 the track remained for many years and the tunnel featured in a Hayley Mills scene in the film Whistle down the Wind as did the Lee Moor Bridge See image 23306. The tunnel has subsequently been turned into a vehicle workshop.
