Woodbridge

The driver of 31 173 waits to be waved away from Woodbridge on Saturday April 15th 1984. The train is the 8.27 a.m. departure to London Liverpool Street. From isolated unstaffed halts in deepest Suffolk to major towns and the capital, and from pay train through local school train to Inter City express, the daily buffet car service from Lowestoft covered the entire range in one journey. This highly individual service ran for the last time on May 12th 1984 leaving the East Suffolk Line without through trains to London for the next 15 years.
