Barras

The highest mainline station in England from 1861 until Dent opened in 1877. This is Barras, midway between the site of the Belah viaduct and Stainmore summit, with magnificent views down to the Eden Valley. It closed in 1962 with the line and the main station building has been removed to Kirkby Stephen East for safekeeping. The platform remains are still visible though along with a small shelter and the station house is still a home.
