Royton Junction

The short branch line to Royton closed in 1966 but Royton Junction station on the Oldham Loop remained open. It was well away from anywhere though and, after nearby Derker opened in 1985, it was allowed to close in 1987. A Derby DMU is seen here heading for Oldham with the Royton branch formation visible beyond the Rochdale platform. Although the line remains open all trace of Royton Junction (and of the branch terminus) has gone.
