Kilmarnock

Crab 42918 of 68B Dumfries struggles south through Kilmarnock station in August 1962 - the day of my visit to Hurlford Shed. Went on the 1.15pm (SO) ex-St Enoch (1.32pm at Paisley Canal) via the Kilbirnie loop and Dalry; returned on the 6.5pm (SO) from Kilmarnock via Dalry to Paisley Gilmour Street. The photograph was taken while awaiting departure from Kilmarnock behind a standard Class 4 2-6-0, which left on time, but subsequently encountered problems raising vacuum at Lochwinnoch, with the result that the train was very late arriving at Gilmour Street. Amazing what trivia sticks in the mind after so many years!
