Longridge (Lancashire)

Stone Bridge lies a few hundred yards to the Preston side of the former Longridge terminus see image 18466. The bridge supports a busy roundabout and has been filled in on the far side. The blue plaque, placed by the Longridge Heritage Committee, reads: Stone Bridge. Constructed in 1847 using cast iron girders with brick infill arches to support the road, the bridge spanned the Preston to Longridge Railway. The first steam train to use the line was on the 12th June 1848. The line closed to passenger traffic in June 1930 and goods traffic ceased in October 1967.
