Kells [County Kerry]

Abandoned signal box at Kells, County Kerry, in 1988. The 1893 station at Kells, on the Great Southern and Western Railway Valentia Harbour branch, closed in 1960. This 40 mile branch off the Tralee - Mallow main line reached the most westerly location in Europe to be served by rail. Valentia Island was also the point at which the first transatlantic telegraph cable came ashore in 1858.
