Braidhurst Viaduct

View looking west to the Braidhurst Viaduct on the Motherwell Deviation. The deviation runs from Jerviston Junction (New) south to Lesmahagow Junction and allowed northbound mineral trains coming off the Lesmahagow Lines (which served many collieries) to run north to various ironworks in Coatbridge without the need to reverse twice in the Motherwell area. This also allowed a single Motherwell station serving all lines to be established at Lesmahagow Junction. Both line and station remain open today.
