Burghlee Ground Frame

Part of the remains of the once extensive yards of Bilston Glen Colliery, closed in 1988. At its peak the pit employed 2,300 men and topped Scottish coal production figures, with the majority of the annual tonnage supplied by rail to Cockenzie power station. The Roslin branch entered centre picture (near the new housing) and continued via the gap in the trees on the right onto Bilston Glen viaduct and on towards Roslin. No trace of the colliery itself remains today with the site now occupied by industrial and commercial premises including the Lothian and Borders Police Communications Centre.
