South Leith Junction

A North Berwick train bound for Waverley speeds past Portobello Junction on the ECML in March 2007 as an EWS class 66 with a trainload of imported coal climbs the gradient from the South Leith branch towards the main line. At this point the Lothian Lines once branched north (the former South Leith Junction) to skirt Portobello Yard. Just to the lower right is the original course of the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway from Niddrie West, now crossed by both main line and branch. See image 53420
