![A 4-car Metro unit heads south over the Queen Elizabeth II bridge crossing the Tyne on 26th June 2017. The slight arc of the cantilevered Metro bridge allows a glimpse of a Virgin ECML train on the King Edward VII bridge behind. ![A Metro 4-car unit stands at the St James terminus in Newcastle city centre on 10 December 2017 ready to depart to South Shields. Informed travellers would change at the first station on its journey, Monument, which will also be its 28th stop, albeit on a different platform at a lower level and around an hour later.
