![E27006 <I>Pandora</I>, one of the seven class EM2 1.5kV DC Co-Co electrics built in 1953/4 to haul passenger trains over the Woodhead route. The locomotive is shown about to leave Sheffield Victoria station (closed 1970) for Manchester in the 1960s. Following the introduction of significant speed restrictions on the Woodhead route, coupled with the BR decision to adopt 25kV AC as the preferred electrification option, the class was withdrawn in 1968 and sold to Dutch Railways, where they became the NS1500 class, operating out of Maastricht depot. They performed as regulars for many years on the Den Haag - Koln express services as far as the German border, as well as on freights originating in the Rotterdam area. <I>Pandora</I> was withdrawn by NS in 1985 and the last of the class the following year. <br>

![Robinson Ex-GCR D11 <I>Director</I> 4-4-0 no 62666 <I>Zeebrugge</I> (centre) with 62670 <I>Marne</I> to the right, standing at Darnall shed, Sheffield in April 1960. Both locomotives were withdrawn towards the end of that year and subsequently cut up at Doncaster Works. The 10-road steam shed at Darnall eventually closed in 1963. After use as a wagon repair depot for several years it fell into disuse and was finally demolished in 1995.<br>

![Shed scene at 16D Annesley, Nottinghamshire, in August 1960 with a number of BR class 9Fs on display. The shed and its associated yard stood at the northern end of the former Great Central 'coal corridor' linking with the yard at Woodford Halse in Northamptonshire. In later years it became well known for the performances of the 9Fs that dominated the route, hauling the rapid-turnaround unfitted freights known as 'runners' between the two locations. During the 1959/60 period Annesley's allocation of 76 locomotives included no less than 31 of the big 2-10-0s. View past the cab of the newly arrived <I>bubble car</I> to the buffer stops. A basic two-hourly shuttle operates from here to Grimsby and Cleethorpes. ![Arriva Sprinter 150227 comes off the Wrexham and Shotton line at Bidston Dee Junction. Until 1994 this junction was controlled by a mechanical signal box but now comes under the Merseyrail control centre. ![Arriva North three car Pacer 144017 runs west through the site of the former Summer Lane station, closed 1959, shortly after leaving Barnsley on the 14.36 service from Sheffield to Huddersfield on 12 May. The track was previously double and the station had two platforms, with that on the south side, alongside Station Road, containing a long station building. There were also extensive sidings to the west of the station. View from a basic footbridge that has replaced the one that also served the station platforms.
