![Gresley K4 2-6-0 no 3442 <I>The Great Marquess</I> about to leave Bradford Forster Square on 4 May 1963 with what is believed to be the locomotive's first outing in preservation. ![<I>Sparse service</I>. Extract from the 1964 London Midland timetable showing services on the short Barnoldswick branch apparently being run down as a prelude to full closure. One train out, which presumably had worked down the branch ECS, one train back later that morning on Saturdays, which would leave ECS, and a return evening working Mondays to Fridays. ![No. 5690 <i>Leander</i> heading for Carnforth immediately west of the site of Apperley Bridge station (closed March 1965) on the 'Leander Enterprise' railtour of 20th October 1979. ![Deltic 55009 <I>Alycidon</I> runs through the Leeds suburb of Armley heading onto the Harrogate line to York, and then on to Hull via Selby, with The Deltic Executive special on a cold and snowy 29 December 1981. ![The previous occasion on which I visited this station was during its last week of service in January 1970. Thornton-in-Craven closed, along with the Colne to Skipton line, w.e.f. 2nd February 1970 and there have been campaigns ever since to reopen this <I>missing link</I> between Lancashire and Yorkshire (which should never have closed). ![Prior to closure in 1965 Frizinghall's platforms were situated opposite each other but when it reopened in 1987 they were staggered either side of the road overbridge. This view looking south from the northbound platform shows 333011 calling at the station heading towards Bradford Forster Square. ![A service from Ilkley takes the Bradford Forster Square line at Shipley. Alongside unit 333016 the Skipton line trails in from the right and beyond that is the connection into the yard.
